Help Our Efforts During Coronavirus
Baldwin Center—a Pontiac community service nonprofit—wants to continue our efforts during the COVID-19 outbreak. We need extra help (Donate Now).
The new coronavirus is challenging our way of serving our community. We’ve prioritized feeding people. We’re continuing our regular, 3-day-a-week lunch schedule with bagged lunches. We are providing additional bags to HOPE shelter to cover their Tuesday/Saturday needs. We are contacted regularly about urgent food needs, and we are doing everything we can to meet them.
With restaurant staff losing work and automotive production on hold, we expect more people in need.
At Baldwin, historically, lunches have been largely prepared by caring, committed volunteers. We are encouraging our older volunteers to stay home. Without these volunteers, how do we provide critical services to our community?
We’ve decided to bring a crew of food service professionals and their helpers into our kitchen. They need the work and we need their expertise.
We want to pay a crew for 8 weeks, plus continue to pay our regular staff, even if they have to stay home due to the risks. We’re estimating an increased cost of $10,000 to cover staff, supplies and food. Any financial assistance, even the smallest amount, will help us meet the rising tide of need in our community with reinforced care and compassion.
