Help Change a Life with One Click
Editor’s note:Voting has now ended for this promotion. Thank you for all of you who voted for the Baldwin Center. We placed 24th out of 107 nonprofits and the top ten charities moved on to the final round. This is the first time Baldwin has participated in a contest such as this. We have learned some things and hopefully you will support us in the future!
Last month I had one of the most rewarding days of working at the Baldwin Center . . .
I found out that three of our students passed the GED exam. They have achieved a high school diploma– a necessary component to any job application. It was a day of celebration!
That program, that celebration, is now in jeopardy and we need your help.
We have found a program that works. We have a computer lab set up where students can come and work at their own pace using software that is specially designed to prepare them to take the difficult GED exam. Another agency had provided us free access to the software and we provided the computers and the tutors. That agency is no longer operating the program and we must now purchase the software on our own. The cost is $6,500. This is a cost we haven’t budgeted for.
But this is where you come in . . .
We are entered in the Suburban Collection Facebook promotion and we have a chance to win $10,000 if we get the most votes.
We need you to vote for the Baldwin Center.
I want to keep telling you about how many students have passed the GED but we need funding, we need your vote!

FYI- our entry submission:
What could your charity do with $10,000 to benefit the communities of Southeast Michigan? With $10,000 the Baldwin Center will be able to dedicate additional resources to our GED program.
• The Pontiac public school drop-out rate is 17.86% with a graduation rate of only 58.63%.
• As many at 37% of local adults do not have a high school diploma or GED.
• Only 10.7% of residents have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
The Baldwin Center is doing something about this problem by offering an online GED program where people can come to the lab and work at their own pace with dedicated tutors. When the students are ready we also pay for the GED examination. If we are to encourage economic self-sufficiency, education must be at the forefront. Baldwin is playing a part, are you? Help us meet our goal of more adults with a high school education. Vote for us!
As always, if you have any questions, just let me know how I can help.
Thank you, now VOTE!
P.S. If you want to help support our GED program with your own gift go to Network for Good and designate the gift for GED.
